Multi Award Winning Website for Teachers & Parents

A tried and true method to spark a child’s interest in reading and language arts is to read aloud. But parents and teachers have time constraints that make reading aloud virtually prohibitive or scarce. The creators of One More Story have a solution — let their large library of award-winning picture books with professional actor narration and top flight music and sound effects do some of the reading!

Imagine, allowing your child to hear excellent storybooks (Stellaluna) read aloud by professional actors and simply listening, as a part of his/her Language Arts education. That will help alleviate any concerns the homeschooling parents may have about providing quality teaching of reading.

OneMoreStory.com is a website that features recordings of  actor readings of excellent storybooks with original music backgrounds by Robby Merkin, former Music Director for Sesame Street.

Besides StellaLuna and Pete’s A Pizza, One More Story offers a vast library of titles to choose from

IMPORTANT FEATURES:

The Read Along Mode brings these the narration of these great books to pre-readers, allowing them to build a foundation of loving reading and literacy in general. In this mode, each word is highlighted as it is spoken, providing a visual connection to the audio. Read Along introduces left to right reading direction, end of line return and turns pages automatically or allows the user to do so.

The I Can Read It Mode helps the veteran beginner reader become an independent reader. There is no music or narration and if a child cannot read a word, s/he can click on it to hear it read aloud!  The neophyte reader can get help without attracting attention to his lack of knowledge.

My Word List is to develop reading fluency. Words that beginning readers click on in the I Can Read It Mode are added to the List and individual users can click on these words any time to create their own review to achieve mastery ultimately, at which time, they move the word to their Learned Word List.

The Vocabulary section develops knowledge of word meanings by showing the definition and next to it, the word in the story context.

Bookmark feature places an icon in the upper right corner of the page where the individual user left off, so s/he can pick back up next reading session.

Build a Word is a fun feature recently added, that allows the user to start with a particular letter group and add letters to the group to create words. Correct words can be clicked on to hear them spoken. This is an easy way to learn phonics in action.

The Rhyme Challenge is a very innovative feature of One More Story. It is an excellent way for young readers to learn the challenging aspects of letter sounds and common letter groupings. This increases their phonic awareness, so important for a lifetime of effective reading. This section also shows how different spellings product similar sounds; in a language like American English that is a melting pot of different languages with various spellings for similar sounds, this feature is essential. Of course, finally, this section helps to develop rhyming awareness and ability,  strengthening the relationship between written and spoken language.

The Parents’ Place allows the adult instructor to track the child’s Word List and recently-read books.

Handicap Accessible with Tab and Enter keys.

One More Story is an imaginative, exciting, enjoyable and affordable resource for the homeschooling family, offering more dimensions to the development of literacy and a lifelong love of reading. Individual subscriptions are less than $50 per year!
